If we go back a year in time, we’d see runways flooding with flowers, floral prints , and more flowers. This was last year’s ultimate trend, and the industry has found a new obsession, PLAID!!!
2018’s fall menswear fashion week showcases the maximalism of “Dolce Gabbana” and “Versace” And minimalism of houses like “Chalayan” , “Joseph” and “Oliver Spencer”. Each great in their own way and signature styles.
Donatella Versace, and as the new generation says, “Went Off” in her new collection. The show displays Zebra and tiger prints, plaid, textured puffer jackets, Velvet everything, and the New Versace X 2 Chainz Sneakers debut. Models walk on the runway on the tunes of 2 chainz and Bruno mars. What i did not like about the show is the lack of cohesiveness, some looks look like they’ve been taken from balmain, fenty puma and Saint Laurent latest shows.
In Moschino, Jeremy Scott had a different view, he took us back to a Jean Paul Gaultier & Madonna era, where gender fluidity, sex, homosexuality, and homoerotic imagery were all taboos. Black was dominant, male models walk down the way with their own lingerie , and female models dressed as sassy cat women. This is a show to remember, kind of reminds me of a 1995 Thierry Mugler and Gianni versace’s infamous bondage collection, “YOU’RE A SLUT FROM THE 90s” . Violet Chacki Closes the show.
Whats noticeable is that designers weren’t afraid to experiment with plaid. Different textures mixed with each others to create a purposely odd look. Miuccia prada purposely mixed unrelated textiles and clip arts on shirts. Fendi created am airport chic collection , and Missoni took is back to the 70s.
